How to Get to Essaouira from Marrakech
Reaching the windswept Atlantic coast of Essaouira is easiest via a direct drive from Marrakech. Most travelers take the 2.5-hour taxi or private car ride or the 3-hour bus journey with Supratours or CTM.
The well-paved, straight road offers stunning views of the Atlas Mountains from the south-facing windows. This itinerary assumes you’ll arrive by bus in the late morning.
- Depart Early from Marrakech
Start your day early to catch a morning bus from Marrakech’s train station. Supratours buses depart from the Avenue Hassan II side.
I always book my ticket in advance at their office on the corner of Avenue des Nations Unies and Avenue de Ouaqalla,it’s closer to the medina and saves you a taxi fare. CTM has an office at the same location.
Confirm shuttle times when purchasing your ticket.
- Arrive at Essaouira’s Medina
Supratours drops you just left of the main city gate, a short walk from the medina’s entrance. If you take CTM, you’ll need a quick taxi to reach the walled city.
Before leaving the bus station, purchase your return ticket immediately, popular times sell out fast. With Supratours, you can exchange tickets up to 15 minutes before departure if your plans change.
The bus fare is around 80 MAD each way, plus 5 MAD for luggage. The journey includes a rest stop halfway, making it a comfortable ride.
